Main Description
Management here involves the management of the development test process, the infrastructure and the test products. This is
a normal part of development activities, but now there is also the issue of defects administration.
In the system test and acceptance test, the administration of each found defect is sacrosanct, for the content of this
administration is used to obtain insight into progress and activities still to be carried out (retests), to create reports,
to gather metrics and to analyse trends. While this is also possible for the development tests, it is much less necessary.
When a unit tester finds a defect, but it is immediately solved and retested, then the defect need not be recorded (unless
the unit is being used elsewhere). On the one hand this relieves the developer from ‘washing the dirty laundry in public’
and on the other hand it saves time. In cases of doubt as regards the cause or lack of clarity concerning the development
basis, the defects are recorded in some detail, since in such cases they should be submitted to the designer within the
development team. From the point when the test object is formally taken into configuration management and is to be used
elsewhere, the known errors and defects found thereafter should be administered. |
